Alcalá for kids

Alcala para niños

You have in your hands a copy of the guide that we have lovingly prepared for you, boys and girls. In these pages you will learn a little about the history of our city, Alcalá de Henares.
As we are sure you have already heard, Alcalá is a city that has been and still is very important. Since Roman times, Alcalá was called Complutum (that’s why we Alcalaínos are called Complutenses), until the Arabs renamed it Al-Qalat-Nahar.
Many other things happened after that: even three different cultures coexisted in the same street, Calle Mayor. Cardinal Cisneros founded the University of Alcalá, which has welcomed some of the most important and illustrious people in history. Miguel de Cervantes, the greatest exponent of Spanish literature, was born in Alcalá on September 29, 1547.

But I won’t tell you any more: I will let you discover it for yourself with this guide and your visit. I hope that you will enjoy Alcalá, that you will create some good memories of this city and that you will come back in a few years, when you are older, with your friends and family. You will always be welcomed here.
